[Conference Article]High stability and rapid response Pneumatic Supply System for microdroplets


Abstract:

Recently, microfluidics is becoming a newly rapidly developed research technology and has an extensive application perspective, among which microdroplets is an important research field. In order to provide stable driving force for the microdroplets system, we demonstrated a high precision, high stability, and wireless constant pressure air pump with two separate cavities, which can generate two independent stable pressures for giving two kinds of different forces to drive reagents respectively. The system is connected to either a computer or a portable device through WiFi. The construct of the air pump was the combination of hardware and software, via the idea of embedded system and modularization, and adjusted the air pressure fast using the PID algorithm. This integrated constant pressure air pump is called Pneumatic Supply System, and the system is a wireless, high stability (±1 mBar) and short response time (less than 4.0s) constant pressure air pump operated with a customized smartphone application or computer program. This system showed great performance in steady state and response time, so that it can be applied in the field of microdroplets exactly within its ability to generate all kinds of uniform-sized droplets.
